Camping is a great way to spend a holiday with the family and is often a cheaper alternative to staying in a hotel or apartment. Whilst there are plenty of beautiful campsites within a few hours drive of the Central Coast, sometimes it's just as nice (and easy) to stay somewhere nearby. We've compiled a list of some of our favourite camping spots on the Central Coast, to make for a fun family getaway without a long journey!

1. Toowoon Bay Holiday Park

Situated on the beach and offering a choice of campsites, caravan sites and cabins, Toowoon Bay Holiday Park is a great place to stay on the Coast. With Toowoon Bay and Shelly Beach close by for surfing and swimming as well as Little Bay with its calmer waters, the whole family can enjoy beach days. The resort boasts many family friendly facilities such as a swimming pool, playgrounds, grassed areas and a large jumping pillow, as well as a camp kitchen and large, clean amenities.

2. NRMA Ocean Beach Holiday Park

For a camping trip set on a stunning beachfront location at Umina Beach, with plenty of activities and facilities for the whole family, check out NRMA Ocean Beach Holiday Park . At this Big4 holiday park, guests have the choice of camping, caravanning or staying in one of the many different cabin accommodation options. Children will be kept well entertained playing in the new adventure playground, bouncing on the jumping pillow or sliding down the waterslide into the water playground. During school holidays and on weekends, there is a Kids Club activity program available too. Have a family game of tennis on the tennis courts or watch a movie in the TV room. Other facilities include BBQs, basketball courts, a toddler pool, games room, cafe and convenience store.

3. Freemans Campground

For something a little more rural in unspoilt bushland, head to Freemans Campground for a family camping trip near the beautiful Birdie Beach. Enjoy the great outdoors and fresh air, with walks, swimming, surfing, fishing and whale watching opportunities all nearby. Facilities include covered BBQ areas, amenities block with showers and toilets, picnic tables, drinking water plus tents and caravan sites available.

4. Blue Lagoon Beach Resort

Located on absolute beach frontage at Shelly Beach, Blue Lagoon Beach Resort is the perfect family camping destination. With plenty of family friendly facilities and the choice of cabins or camping sites, the whole family will enjoy a stay at Blue Lagoon. Set within a private location and away from main roads, kids will be able to safely ride their scooters and bikes. Have a game of tennis, play in the playground, spend the day at the beach or relax by the pool. Make use of the resort BBQs or simply have a meal at the onsite cafe. During the school holidays, kids can be kept entertained at the School Holiday Kids Club.

5. Budgewoi Holiday Park

For a lakeside camping getaway, check out the holiday park at Budgewoi Holiday Park . Set facing the tranquil Lake Munmorah, with fishing and water sports on offer, it's sure to be a great family holiday. There are 4 types of cabins available to stay in or pitch up your tent or caravan on one of the powered sites. The kids will have a great time on the jumping pillow and playgrounds and adults can relax under the shady trees or enjoy a BBQ with friends. Surrounded by plenty of native wildlife and within walking distance to Budgewoi beach, the park also has a large camp kitchen and clean amenities.

6. Glenworth Valley Camping

To experience the great Aussie outdoors and for an action packed stay, book a camping holiday at the popular Glenworth Valley Camping . Camp spots are set within a secluded 200 acre riverfront setting, with tents and cabins available for hire. For something a little unique and fun, check out the permanently erected tipis available to hire. Relax next to the river and around a camp fire or fill your days with adventure, such a horse riding, quad biking and kayaking. Amenities and BBQs are available for use, plus fire wood and ice are available to purchase upon check in.
