The Central Coast boasts many stunning locations that make for a perfect picnic with the family. Whether on your picnic you fancy whale spotting, watching waterfalls or having a lakeside BBQ whilst the kids play on a playground, we've got your options covered in the below list of some of our favourite picnic spots:
1. Crackneck Lookout
Where: Hilltop Street, Bateau Bay (part of the Wyrrabalong National Park)
Amenities: Car Park, Picnic Benches
Price: Free
The perfect spot if you're keen to see a few migrating whales (during certain months of the year) and stunning views of the coast, so be sure to bring your camera! Crackneck is a great place to lay out a picnic blanket or make use of one of the benches. For some exercise after lunch, why not go for a stroll along The Coast walking track, which you can either take 2km north to Bateau Bay beach or 1.5km south to Forresters Beach.
2. Somersby Falls Picnic Area
Where: 205 Somersby Falls Road, Somersby
Amenities: Picnic Benches, BBQs, Toilets, Car Park
Price: $8 per vehicle per day (park entry fee)
Hidden within a lush rainforest in Brisbane Water National Park and surrounded by waterfalls and a walking track, you'll find a perfect picnic area to bring the family. Watch the water falling from the creek or go exploring on the 500m out and back walk through the rainforest, to take in more views of the waterfalls. Be mindful of young children on the walk, as the track gets steep and sometimes slippery.
3. Patonga Beach
Where: Bay Street, Patonga
Amenities: Toilets, Playground, BBQs
Price: Free
A hidden gem south on the coast lies Patonga Beach, surrounded by Brisbane Water National Park. This little spot is a quiet, picturesque town, with a beautiful beach and calm waters to swim in- perfect for little ones. Just next to the beach is a playground, surrounded by plenty of trees for shade. Patonga Ferry Wharf is close by, a great place for a spot of fishing. Dogs are also welcome off leash in designated areas, making Patonga Beach a fantastic picnic spot for the whole family.
4. Elizabeth Ross Park
Where: 11 Albert Street, East Gosford
Amenities: BBQs, Picnic Benches, Playground
Price: Free
A great and easy spot to bring the family to for a picnic at East Gosford. Children will love the playground, whilst parents can cook on one of the BBQs or relax on a picnic rug. The park neighbours the fantastic
Japanese Gardens , so once you're finished with your picnic, definitely go check out the stunning gardens and feed the beautiful Koi fish.
5. Tuggerah Lake: Chittaway Point to The Entrance
Where: Anywhere on the lake between Chittaway to The Entrance
Amenities: Toilets, Picnic Benches, BBQs, Playgrounds
Price: Free
Along the scenic and peaceful Tuggerah Lake walk, you'll find plenty of perfect picnic spots. From lakeside grassed areas, to shade under the trees and picnic benches with BBQs and playgrounds to use, you'll be sure to have a great picnic. Stretch your legs on a walk or go for a bike ride after your picnic if you're feeling energised or just kick back and relax at this fabulous Central Coast location.
6. Elizabeth Bay Picnic Area
Where: Wybung, Munmorah State Conservation Area
Amenities: Toilets, Picnic Benches, Boat Ramp
Price: $8 per vehicle per day (park entry fee)
Another beautiful and scenic spot for a picnic is the Elizabeth Bay Picnic Area, which is situated within the
Munmorah State Conservation Area . Here, you'll find plenty of space for a picnic, next to the calm waters and sparkling sand of Elizabeth Bay. Don't forget your swimmers and fishing rod!
