For most people, their furbabies are part of the family, and being able to take them on outings, instead of leaving them at home, makes weekends more fun.
Luckily, the Central Coast has plenty of dog-friendly places where pups can roam free.
Fenced off-leash areas
Tuggerah Oval, Second Ave, Tuggerah
There's plenty of room for dogs to explore here, just remember it's closed for maintenance on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 7am to 12pm.
Sensory Park, Showground Road, Narara
At this relatively new park (opened in December 2015), you can bring your dog for a play, while the kids ride their bikes along the bike track right next door. It’s flat, easily accessible and there's plenty of parking.
Lakes Beach at Budgewoi
500 metres north of the surf club, you are able to take your dog for a run and a swim you can head to Lakes Beach café at the surf club, which has lovely food and friendly staff, and there's plenty of parking.
This is one of the most picturesque beaches on the Central Coast, where there are cafes, restaurants, and a playground. Dogs are allowed at the far north end of the beach, which is at the opposite end of where the shopping and restaurant areas are located.
Dogs are allowed to run between Brisk Street and Jacaranda Ave.
Avoca and North Avoca Beaches
The middle of Avoca and North Avoca is dog-friendly, which is south of View Street up to just past the lagoon only.
There is a small section here where dogs are allowed off-leash between Crystal Street and Henrys Road.
Copacabana Beach to Macmasters Beach
The southern end of beautiful Copacabana Beach is where dogs are allowed off leash and it runs down to Macmasters Beach and stops approximately at Gerda Road.
Putty Beach, Killcare
Dogs are welcome in the centre section of this beach.
North Shelley Beach
This is a gorgeous beach for your pooch to run along and have a swim, and afterwards, you can head to Muncha’s for breakfast, lunch or coffee, as they are a dog-friendly cafe.
Impact Cafe, Empire Bay
Attached to the nursery, this cafe allows dogs to come in as long as they are restrained and kept on a leash at all times.
Cranky Flea Dog Cafe, Tuggerah Supa Centre.
This cafe is part of the RSPCA Care Centre so dogs can be found everywhere. They also have pup cakes and pupa-chinos on their menu.
Lotus Cafe, Wamberal
Lotus has outside areas where pets are welcome to sit while their owners eat.
