Having lunchtime or evening picnics by the water is one of the best things about living on the Central Coast during summer.
Here are the best places to go for fish and chips with water views based on recommendations from locals:

Sea Bounty Grill
Next to Gorokan Fish Co-Op, near Toukley Bridge
Open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner
This place has a great reputation, with lots of people saying they travel out of area to go there because the food is so delicious. It’s a food van located next to a picnic area overlooking the lake that you can sit down at to enjoy your food as soon as you order it. Besides traditional fried fish and chips, it also offers some unusual but yummy options such as seafood chowder, sweet potato and pumpkin scallops, and vegan and vegetarian fish and chips.
Big Tuna Fish Co
131 The Entrance Rd, The Entrance
Open 7 days from 10am to 8pm
Just across the road from The Entrance foreshore, it’s in a perfect area to have a picnic but there’s also indoor dining and a cute little outside alley with tables as well. They have lots of fresh and light meals as well as fried food that isn’t too oily, and you can choose your seafood right out of the window. There are lots of rave reviews about their grilled fish, calamari and fish burritos.

Fisherman’s Wharf
The Boulevarde, Woy Woy
Open 7 days a week for lunch and takeaway
This is a Central Coast icon on Brisbane Water that has been around since 1974 and it’s so popular you need to book to make sure you get a table (especially on weekends). The fish and chips seem to be the most highly rated dish but the seafood platters receive a lot of praise too. Kids will love that there is pelican feeding at 3pm and a playground right next door. Mums and Dads will love that they can have a drink during lunch as the restaurant is fully licensed. If you get takeaway you can sit at one of the picnic tables just past the play area.
Avoca Beach Seafood
85 Avoca Drive, Avoca Beach
Open 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm
This place wins for its prime position right on Avoca Beach (and they’ve recently added weather blinds for windy and rainy days) and it’s BYO alcohol too. You might struggle to get a seat on weekends in the restaurant as it can be very busy, but you can get takeaway and sit on the grass or beach which are just a few steps away. Picnic rugs can conveniently be hired from the restaurant and there’s plenty of space for kids to run around on the grass. The meals people really seem to really enjoy the most are the salt and pepper squid, fresh salads and burgers.
Monti's Ashore
3/65 Masons Parade, Point Frederick
Open 7 days a week, from 11:30 to 7:30pm
You can dine in at Monti’s or go across the road to the park right on the Gosford Waterfront with takeaway. There can be long queues of people waiting to get in so you either need to be prepared for that or call and order before going in to pick up if you don’t have the time. But if you do have to wait with little ones, there’s plenty for them to play on at the playground or they can ride their bikes. The calamari, scallops and barramundi are the best rated menu items. They have EFTPOS now which makes it much easier to order than it used to be.
Others
Here are some other fish and chip shops that aren’t right by the water but come highly recommended from some of our Central Mums:
-
Darron’s Seafood at Wamberal
“Best by far and 1 minute from Wamberal beach” - Bell, Central Mums.
-
Ocean Blue at Gorokan
“I'm coeliac and get great gluten free fish and chips from here” - Haley, Central Mums.
